Scott Gedling
Commander - Army

          Colonel (Ret) Scott Gedling is an accomplished leader having served more than 31 years in the Alabama Army National Guard, with more than 26 of those years on Active Duty In the AGR Program.   He deployed for two tours to Iraq in addition to direct participation in numerous domestic response missions. He was born in 1963 in Huntsville, Alabama.  He started his military career as an enlisted soldier December 1981 and was later commissioned in the Signal Corps after graduating as the Distinguished Honor Graduate from OCS at Fort Benning, Georgia in October 1983.


Colonel (Ret) Gedling has held numerous leadership positions including Platoon Leader, Company Commander, State Training Officer and Battalion Commander.  His last assignment for more than 7 years was serving as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations for the Alabama Army National Guard.   He was also the National Chairman for the ARNG Plans, Operations, Readiness and Training Advisory Committee. 


Colonel (Ret) Gedling holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Management of Technology from Athens State University and a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.  He is a graduate of the U. S. Army Signal Officer’s Basic and Advanced Courses, Command and General Staff College, and the U.S Army War College.


             Colonel (Ret) Gedling is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as the commander of the 711th Signal Battalion, Mobile Alabama Leading a total of six Companies and more than 700 soldiers. supporting one of the largest geographic areas of responsibility in Iraq to include the Multi-National Division Central South (Feb 2004-Jan 2005).  He was also deployed to Iraq in 2003 as the National Guard Representative to a Department of Army Study Group team.  In addition, Colonel Gedling deployed to Louisiana in support of Hurricane Katrina Operations with duty as the Task Force Commander responsible for Saint Tammany Parrish.  

Since his Retirement in 2013 he has devoted a tremendous amount of his time in volunteer support to Veterans.  He has been an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars since 1989 and Lifetime Member of Post 6226 Arab, AL.  He is a 3-time All-American Post Commander, District Commander for district 2, Budget Committee Chairman and Legislate Representative for the Department of Alabama.  In addition, He currently serves as the VFW Department Commander for Alabama and Board Member of the Alabama Department of Veteran Affairs. 


Colonel (Ret) Gedling now owns his own business, Scott’s Construction, LLC.  With this business he builds custom decks and boathouses around lake Guntersville.


He also gives back to his community by formerly mentoring with the Marshall County Veterans Court and has participated in numerous mission trips to Israel, Mexico and Haiti with his Church.  He has Been married to His Wife Kay Gedling for 23 years and has 2 daughters Melissa and Amber and 1 son Jason.
